Whether the problem is stress related or due to sickness, it is up to you to recognize these warning signs and take appropriate action to ensure that your business keeps running smoothly.

Stress Related - Office Tension


Is there one person in your office that seems to rub everyone the wrong way? If you are noticing undue tension in your office and it seems to be centered around one person, you will need to keep an eye on this situation, especially if you happen to be that person! If there is a cog that is keeping your business from functioning properly, time is of the essence to get it fixed. Office tensions can arise from perceived favoritism, long hours, or simply clashing personalities. As a business owner, it is your job to make sure that you treat all of your employees equally, try not to overwork them, and make sure that the people you are hiring mesh well with existing employees.

Stress Related - Outbursts

This is related to office tension, but is more severe. If you are noticing emotional outbursts from your employees, such as yelling or crying, this is a very good sign that something is wrong. It may be as simple as a problem at home, or there may be something terribly wrong in the office. It is important to offer your employees counseling away from the office where they can deal with any issues they may be having without worrying about their job status.

Health Related - Frequent Sicknesses

Does it seem like your employees are endlessly passing the same virus back and forth? When people work together in close environments, chances are, at least a few of them will come down with a cold or the flu. If this seems to be wiping out your work force, it is time to take action by providing antibacterial wipes for shared surfaces, and incentives for staying home until sick employees are well.

Health Related - Listless Employees

Have you noticed a sharp decline in performance after 3pm in your employees? This may be due to the kind of snacks you are providing, either in break rooms or in vending machines. While it can be impossible to control what your employees eat, you can provide them with healthy alternatives for their afternoon snacks to ensure that they are not crashing from sugar highs before the day is over.

Keeping your employees healthy and happy can be almost a full time job, but it is essential to keeping your business running as it should.
