Highlights of Humana Health Insurance

Humana health insurance is a popular healthcare choice for many Americans today. Humana is the insurance of choice for most of the United States’ military personnel, making it a forerunner in the health insurance industry.

The History of Humana Health Insurance

Though Humana health insurance started in the 1980s, when the health care system in the United States started its most recent evolution, Humana’s roots were firmly planted well beforehand. Humana’s origins date back to the early 1960s where it began in nursing homes and hospitals.

Humana Today

Since the 1990s, Humana has continued to branch into other areas of health care, including health insurance. Humana now provides health insurance as well as other health care services through its extensive network of nursing homes, full-service hospitals, health insurance providers, and other health care products including their industry leading research into artificial hearts.

Humana is also a premier provider of health care and health insurance for the United States military through Humana Military Healthcare Services, and a regular provider of specialized health care and health insurance plans for Medicare through Humana Medicare.

What Humana Offers

In addition to its extensive specialist and health care services, Humana also offers a variety of group and individual plans. Humana’s group H plans offer a wide variety of options for employers. For example, Humana’s health insurance's Consumer-Driven Plans allow members to use their everyday shopping skills on health insurance. Employers may also opt for more traditional options, such as the use of Preferred Provider Organizations (PPOs) or Health Maintenance Organizations (HMOs). Humana Classic is also available for those employers outside of Humana’s network.

For individual health insurance, Humana One provides its members with an entire range of products to cover all their health insurance needs, including many options people don’t often associate with health care. Humana One’s individual plan offers coverage for preventive care, hospitalization, or intensive care, while also providing immediate prescription, co-pay/reimbursement and maternity benefits.

For families who must keep their monthly premium low, the Humana One High Deductable Health Plan (HDHP) offers a low monthly payment in exchange for coverage that takes care of only serious injury or illness.

The Many Sides of Humana Insurance

Health insurance includes more than just traditional health insurance with Humana One. Members can also apply for one of two Individual Dental Insurance options. Both can be packaged with their traditional health insurance coverage or as an independent insurance plan. Members may choose their own dentist and receive coverage or reimbursement for preventive care services as well orthodontics and teeth whitening.

Another area many people do not associate with health insurance is term life insurance, yet Humana One Term Life Insurance provides up to a million dollars in coverage through three coverage term options. People from the ages of 18-65 may be eligible for 10, 15 or 20-year term life insurance. This variety of options makes Humana life insurance a popular choice for many individuals.
